B i l l   M o o r i e r

I was born in the UK and studied at the University of Nottingham, for a PhD in Mathematics. I moved to California in 2003, and I'm now VP of Software Development at justin.tv, where we are doing for live video what youtube did for pre-recorded video.

I taught myself programming when I was nine years old, on a ZX81, and I've been making computers do fun things ever since. I'm a fan of Lisp, and once embedded a Scheme interpreter in the Linux kernel (why not?). I've written a search engine for Lisp documentation, a multiplayer crossword game and an MRI explorer. I've written a ton of software at justin.tv, including a highly scalable chat system.

I like photography, hiking, kayaking, playing the guitar and singing. In my spare time I'm building a robotic xylophone and a new website, punksnap.com.

Interesting links:
  • The video on the left is live from the office I work in.
  • Paul Graham writes some excellent essays.
  • Adam Beguelin is working on a cool new website for IP-cams, sensr.net.
  • Jimmy Moore has an awesome chat site.

My family name was Bland, until July 2008, when I got married - my wife and I both changed our names to Moorier.

If you want to contact me, email is best.
